When Jim Swarzman was killed by a hit-and-run driver in early April while cycling with his fiancee and a friend down in Encinitas, we were all devastated. Jim was a gifted ultra-distance racer, a great friend of LACBC, and a staunch supporter of bicycle advocacy. His killer later turned himself in, was found guilty, and is now awaiting sentencing. Many of you have already sent your condolences to Jim’s family, or honored him by contributing in his name to LACBC, and we thank you for that.

Now, for a short time, AdventureCORPS will generously match all memberships and contributions to LACBC in Jim’s honor, up to $10,000. So when you join, renew, or donate, LACBC will receive twice the amount you give. We ask that you please encourage your friends to become members now – whether they are new or long-time cyclists, whether you knew Jim personally or have been touched by hearing about his story. LACBC is Transforming LA’s Streets!

LACBC has been your trusted advocacy group over the past 10 years in Los Angeles County. The last year has brought many exciting dreams of the bicycle community to realization. The Bicycle Master Plan in March, CicLAvia in April, and 7th St. this October! The list continues.

LACBC proudly debuts their first ever promotional video that puts a human face on the folks they represent who ride 7th St. In English, Spanish, and Korean (with English subtitles), the 7th St. video is a one of a kind celebration of the unique diversity of the cycling community in Los Angeles.

Does this excite you? It excites us, too!

Remember: All of this has been possible beeause of LACBC’s award winning, inclusive work to build the bicycle movement in a “town of cars”, advocate to political officials for much needed change, and get those much needed lanes striped on streets!

So, please for the New Year, don’t be afraid to share
Dig out those bikes from your basement, garage, or yard

We’ll fix them up so they are good as new
Our goal is 100, but more will do

As part of the County Cycling Collaborative, Jonathan Green, a.k.a. the Bike Wrangler, is collecting bikes to redistribute throughout LA County through a Bike Drive going through January 31, 2011! LACBC’s 2nd Annual Mid-Winter Merriment at the Library Alehouse

The LACBC 2nd Annual Mid-Winter Merriment Library Alehouse Fundraiser will be on Tuesday, December 28th, 2010 at 2911 Main St, Santa Monica, 90405 all day.   What could be more fun than spending the day having a drink with friends post-Holiday Madness at the Library Alehouse? Buy some food, beer or a raffle ticket: it all goes to helping LACBC and you could win a bike! 15% of the day’s proceeds will go to LACBC. Bike Valet will be provided between 5-11pm.
